China is both perpetrator and victim of excessive consumerism led by multinational corporations who have exploited its huge underpaid workforce to increase profit margins. The demand for bargain prices, no matter the consequences, has fueled the Chinese manufacturing juggernaut. Forced to keep labor and material costs down, China has flooded the market with a glut of shoddy and hazardous products.
Our communities, children and pets have been subjected to lethal products. China has embraced free market capitalism at the expense of the environment, health, and safety even of its own citizens.
